Ferrero to host celebrations at Lithgow factory as Nutella turns 50!

One of world’s favourite spreads to run events around globe to mark special birthday.

Lithgow, Australia – 18 May 2014: Ferrero Australia will host a major event this Sunday, May 18, at its factory in Lithgow NSW to mark 50 years since Nutella® was first produced by the Ferrero family in Italy back in 1964.

More than 200 employees and family members will mark the occasion by attending a celebration from 9am-12pm at the Ferrero factory in Barton St Lithgow, where the famous Nutella® hazelnut spread has been made with loving care and attention.

The Lithgow event is part of a series of celebrations being staged around the world to recognise the 50th anniversary of Nutella®, which was first produced by Michele Ferrero - son of the company founder Pietro Ferrero – a master confectioner who established the Ferrero Company in the Piedmont region of Italy in 1946.

“Nutella®, one of the most popular hazelnut spreads on the planet, has been proudly produced in Australia at our Lithgow factory since 1978 when Ferrero established its operations in Australia,” said Ferrero Australia’s spokesperson. “And globally the Nutella® brand marks its 50th anniversary this year. What better way to honour this occasion than by thanking all our employees and their families with a special brunch at our factory on Sunday May 18?”

More than 200 people including employees and their families will enjoy Nutella® pancakes and other breakfast favourites at the event on Sunday. Lithgow Mayor Maree Statham, who will attend, said: “It’s a very exciting milestone for Ferrero celebrating 50 years of Nutella® and it is an honour to be part of this wonderful event.”

The Honourable John Cobb MP, Member for Calare who will be attending the celebrations on Sunday, added: “A success story for Lithgow and the Ferrero family company, this is also the 36th year of producing Nutella® and TIC TAC® in the region and Australia,” he said. “Ferrero prides itself on its sustainable and environmental success, and importantly is looking to establish hazelnut farming in the Riverina.”

“We have been a proud and vibrant part of the Lithgow business community for almost 40 years now and indeed one of the largest local employers” said Ferrero Australia’s spokesperson “Our success has everything to do with the great people we have employed from the local area over the years –and indeed some families have been with us since the very first day. Our big celebration on Sunday May 18 allows us to say ‘thank you’ to all our staff and their families.”
