Ferrero Australia given top honours at the 2015 Green Globes Awards

Ferrero Australia won the Medium to Large Business Sustainability category at the 2015 Green Globe Awards. The awards recognise environmental excellence, leadership and innovation.

Ferrero also received a special commendation certificate in the Innovation category for its BioGill project, which improved the management of liquid trade waste.

The award winners were announced at a gala ceremony held at the Art Gallery of New South Wales on Thursday, 15 October 2015.

Ferrero’s family-owned structure with a values-driven culture allow for the company to drive sustainability at both global and local levels. Ferrero has taken the approach of integrating best practices and innovations in sustainability across each aspect of the value chain of its products with targets and achievements annually reported in its Corporate Social Responsibility Report which has a GRI A+ accreditation and is externally verified by Deloitte.

Ferrero Australia has produced its iconic Tic Tac and Nutella brands at its Lithgow factory since the 1970’s. Its sustainability recognition of “local actions to global commitments” highlights the company’s achievements in local advocacy of Ferrero’s global CSR commitments; its pursuit and promotion of 100 per cent sustainably sourced ingredients by 2020 (with palm oil already 100 per cent sustainably sourced, segregated and traceable to plantation); its community investment and volunteering with partners Brainwave and Foodbank; and the environmental achievements at the Lithgow factory featuring significant reductions in electricity, water usage, waste to landfill and GHG emissions. The company self-generates over half of its electricity needs and has implemented innovative new waste management technology.

An independent panel of environment experts helped select this year’s winners. The awards are considered the leading environment awards in New South Wales and have been running for 16 years. A list of winners can be found here: www.environment.nsw.gov.au/greenglobes/
