Sustainability at Ferrero is gold

Ferrero Australia, part of the family owned global confectionery company Ferrero, has today become a Gold Partner in the NSW Government’s Sustainability Advantage Program recognising their excellent environmental performance and commitment to sustainability.

Environment Minister Robyn Parker tonight commended Ferrero Australia and 40 other local businesses for their outstanding environmental achievements at an award’s ceremony at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney.

“Ferrero Australia is one of only six businesses to be recognised with Gold Partner status for demonstrating leadership and achieving exceptional environmental and sustainable outcomes in their local community,” Ms Parker said.

“The company’s global commitment to minimise its environmental impact is realised locally through the implementation of a Trigeneration plant, powering more than 50 per cent of their Lithgow factory.

Bathurst MP Paul Toole said Ferrero have also reduced their waste to landfill by more than 50 per cent and cut more than a third of their water use in the last five years.

“This truly is a case where investment in resource efficiency has led to growth of a high quality brand and a successful business,” Mr Toole said.

Managing Director of Ferrero Australia said that investing in local communities and diminishing their impact on the local environment is the essence of sustainability.

“We are proud of our ongoing partnership with the NSW Government through Sustainability Advantage, that has helped us ensure local sustainability actions meet our global targets,” said Ferrero spokesperson.

At tonight’s ceremony, Ms Parker will also recognise the achievements of 21Bronze and 24 Silver Partners across NSW who represent diverse sectors such as aged care, education, manufacturing, property and infrastructure.

Across the state, Sustainability Advantage is helping more than 530 businesses to save over $79 million a year off their bottom line.
